Como Soy Cubano
Disquera: Parlophone Spain
Combining funk with Cuban music could inspire a lot of nose-twitching, and rightly so. The first track on this album ("Lo Bueno No Sale Barato") is a derivate disappointment that evokes early Chili Peppers, badly done. Then the tide turns. The band forges a nearly-equitable truce between its many inspirations, giving Cuban son and African-style guitar a little more say over the songs. The sun breaks through, and Jarabe De Palo-style rock enters the scene. Every so often you'll still feel inspired to break out your white man's overbite, but when these guys hit it, they hit it pretty well.
